Art one point I bought all US releases (the superior Japanese pressings). All of them have been stolen along the way; the only one I have now is Something New.

I, for one, always loved “Mr Moonlight,” ever since I first heard it on “Beatles ’65″ (one of those patchwork albums that Capitol created) way back when. And I’ve long wanted to hear the original. So thank you for that! Another good chapter.

It’s ironic (or something) that I associate two of the songs in this column with the old Beatles cartoon series (am I showing my age?) … “Anna” was ALWAYS one of my favorite Beatles songs as well as one of the most obscure, but most girls from my era will also probably remember watching that episode of the cartoon when they played it and wishing THEY were the girl who had cartoon-Paul lying in her lap, feeding him grapes.

I’m also in agreement (and didn’t realize it was such a popular opinion) re: “Mr. Moonlight” being one of the worst Beatles songs, particularly if you take out some of the novelty stuff like “Rev 9.” … And also automatically associate it with a Beatles cartoon (unbelievably racist one) where “the boys” are singing the song while they’re about to be eaten by cannibals or something (haven’t seen any of these cartoons in a few decades so my memory on this one is a little hazier.). But it definitely detracted from what was, I think, one of their very best albums.

RE: Dr Feelgood & The Interns, Roy Lee Johnson was both in the band and sings ‘Mr Moonlight’. Piano Red performs ‘Dr Feelgood’. Johnson went on to record a bunch of his own stuff, including the incredible ‘Boogaloo #3′.
